The Brief
Carn Brea Leisure Centre's Summer Fun Day began life as a one-off event celebrating the centre's 50th anniversary in 2024. Following its success, the client decided to run it annually - and the brief was to evolve the one-off celebration branding into a repeatable identity that could work as an ongoing yearly event, not a single milestone.
The Approach
The Summer Fun Day identity builds on Carn Brea Leisure Centre's one-off 50th anniversary celebration, which proved popular enough to become an annual event. Rather than relying solely on event photography as before, I built a fully illustrated scene - bunting, a sunburst backdrop, marquee tents, food stalls and clouds - anchored by a bold, hand-lettered "Summer Fun Day" script logotype, then blended in real photography of the activities within circular frames. This hybrid approach kept the branding warm and trustworthy with authentic imagery, while giving the event its own distinct, illustrated identity that's easy to refresh and reuse each year.
The Deliverables

- Flyers
- Social media assets
- Large printed banners
The Outcome
The redesign gave the Summer Fun Day event a distinct, reusable identity of its own - moving it on from the one-off 50th celebration into a recognisable annual event for the community. The event was well received, with strong attendance, and the new illustrated style is set to be the foundation for future years.
