The Brief
Cornwall Construction & Developments Ltd approached me through a personal referral as a brand new company with no existing identity. The initial ask was a logo — but with a clear vision: something modern and punchy that would stand out from local competitors, incorporating the initials CCD and a reference to Cornwall's industrial heritage.
The Approach
Before sketching a single idea, I researched the local construction sector to understand the visual landscape. The gap was obvious — competitors almost universally defaulted to navy, grey, and safe, generic typography. CCD's brand would go the opposite direction.
The logo concept emerged from exploring how all three letters could function as one unified geometric form. The solution was a nested shape in which the two Cs wrap concentrically around the D — which I redesigned as an architectural door, referencing both construction and craftsmanship. The overall structure is built on hexagon and cube geometry, giving the mark a sense of solidity and precision. A minestack chimney integrated into the logomark adds a subtle Cornish heritage signature that immediately sets the brand apart.
Colour was a deliberate strategic choice. Where competitors played it safe, I pushed for a vibrant, punchy palette that would own the space no one else was occupying — ensuring CCD would be immediately recognisable across signage, vehicles, and digital channels.
With the brand foundation signed off, the project expanded organically into a full brand rollout — each stage commissioned on the strength of the last.

The Outcome
The brand launched across physical sites, vehicles, and social media throughout Cornwall. The live website — cornwallconstructionanddevelopments.co.uk — is fully operational and driving enquiries, with the client later commissioning copywriting and SEO work to support its performance. Every deliverable led directly to the next, and CCD remains an active ongoing client.
